Dear Kindergarten Families,
This month we have been enjoying different activities to celebrate March Is Reading Month! Check out some photos below of students who dressed up for Book Character Dress Up Day!
We continue to learn and practice Phonics skills every day in our classroom to help us with reading and writing. At this point of the year, we have learned about the sounds of all of the letters of the alphabet and have practiced reading and writing CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, as well as some longer words. Our end-of-year target is to be able to read and write CVC words. While all kids are able to do so at this point, we are learning to be careful to not mix up b/d or p/q or any of the short vowels! This week in Phonics, we are starting to learn about how two consonant letters can be combined to represent one sound, such as with the double letters ll, ff, zz, and ss or with the letters ck at the end of words following short vowels.
In the area of Math, we will be wrapping up Unit 6 this week. Family letters will be coming home tomorrow to share some of what we will be learning about during Unit 7!
Today some students were excited to bring their stuffies to school for the Stuffie Sleepover! Stuffies joined us in the classroom for the first part of our day, before we gave them tags and sent them on their way. We enjoyed having our stuffies join us for yoga (see photos below) and other activities!
Today some students wore different, fun socks to celebrate Rock Your Socks Off Day. When people ask them why they are wearing fun socks, it's an opportunity to share and teach what we have learned about friends who are born with Down Syndrome and how to make all friends feel welcome and included.
Winter report cards will be sent home tomorrow (Friday!) Please know that for all goals a score of 3 is the target by the end of the year and that for many goals a 3 is the highest score possible. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the report cards once you take a look at them! Though I might take a week or so to respond because....
Next week is Spring Break! There is no school from 3/25-3/29. I hope you enjoy the extra time with your kids and I look forward to seeing them when they return!
Happy Spring Break!
Ms. Moon
p.s. I've updated our classroom wish list (on the Wish List page) and always appreciate donations! We especially need a few more empty paper towel rolls. Thanks in advance!
