About the teacher
With respect to my education and teaching experience, I graduated from Wayne State University in 1999 with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. I then completed my Masters Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership at Oakland University in 2003. I taught Special Education for a total of 9 years (in an SXI classroom, a POHI classroom, and a Resource Room), followed by many years mostly in Kindergarten, before launching the Young 5s program at Thurston. This year I am returning to Kindergarten and feel so fortunate to be able to teach Kindergarten at Thurston Elementary!
On a personal note, I grew up in Indiana, Ohio, and West Germany before ending up in Michigan at the age of 16. I have lived in Ann Arbor now for over 20 years and it is by far my favorite place to live! I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, including my son who is a Thurston and AAPS graduate! Since I don't live too far from Thurston, you may sometimes see me walking, riding my bike, or taking the bus to school. Besides dreaming up fun ideas for the classroom, my other hobbies include: reading, journaling, dancing, hiking, and making yummy, healthy food.
