Hello Families,
One of our regular activities in Kindergarten is Writer's Workshop! During Writer's Workshop we meet as a class for a mini-lesson that's focused on a writing skill, then we head to tables to practice independent writing for about 10-15 minutes, and then we end our time with some friends sharing their stories with the class. We have been learning that we can think of ideas first, then draw the pictures, and then add words when we are ready. We've been learning about different ways to add words to our writing. We've been practicing saying words slowly and saying the sounds we hear in them and then writing the letters that make those sounds. This week we talked about using the ABC chart as a tool that can help us when we are trying to find out which letter makes which sound. Check out some photos of students during our Writer's Workshop time below!
We have been using our Chromebooks in the classroom to work on the Lexia app to practice our English Language Arts skills and just started using the Dreambox app to practice our Math skills. We are in need of headphones for our classroom! Students are welcome to bring in their own headphones to keep at school and/or to donate extra headphones for our classroom. Wired headphones that do not require charging and smaller headphones that do not take up too much space are preferred! We will plan to keep our Chromebooks at school, unless families let me know that they want them coming home on weekends. If that's your preference, please just send me an email, and we'll start sending them home on Friday 11/3 in a case and with a charger. Please have them bring their fully charged Chromebook back to school each Monday.
Some important dates to keep in mind: Parent Teacher Conferences are on 10/19, 11/2 and 11/9 (click HERE to check your date). Our Fall Party is on 10/27 from 2:00-3:00. Thurston's Halloween Parade is on 10/31 (please let me know if you do not want your child to participate!) and 10/31 is also an early release day.
