Dear Kindergarten Families,
This week we are wrapping up our first small moment unit of writing. Students bundled up their small moment stories and will be bringing them home this week to share with families. (Some of them are saving them to give as gifts, so you might need to wait!) Ask your child to read their stories to you and they are welcome and encouraged to add more details to the pictures and words if they like!
On Wednesday, Thurston students dressed up for Favorite Team Day!
We have been keeping track of the number of days that we've been in school and will reach our 100th day of school around February 12 (or later if we get any snow days!) One of the ways we will celebrate is by inviting each child to put together a 100th day project, a collection of 100 items displayed in any way they like, to share with the class. Students will bring home more information about this homework this week and are welcome to bring their project to school anytime before the 100th day. Just giving families a heads up, in case students would like to begin thinking about this project over the break!
Please see this note from our theater teacher:
Theatre Update! Young 5s and Kindergarteners had a great time working with the Cherokee tale “The Fire on the Other Side of the World.” Students listened to and performed the story in different ways, learned about the Native American drone flute, and had opportunities to perform as each of the four characters: Raven, Possum, Buzzard, and Spider. If you want to know more, ask your child about their favorite character, or what they learned from the story. Before break, each class got to experience our new Dramatic Play Centers. They had a great time creating stories with the puppets, kitchen supplies, cars, costumes, dinosaurs, and more. Thank you so much for your generous donations that made it possible!

We are looking forward to our Winter Party tomorrow (12/22) from 2:00-3:00. We are all set with activities, but parents are welcome to join and help out even if you haven't signed up. Thanks to all the families who are helping out!
Our Winter Break is from 12/25-1/5! We will return on Monday 1/8/24. I hope that you enjoy the holidays and the extra time with your family!
